solve for x and y: 2x-y = 5 x+y = 3

2x - y = 5
...... (1)

x  + y = 3 ........(2)

We will use the
elimination method:

Add (1) and (2):

==> 3x =
8

==> x= 8/3

Now to
calculate y, we will substitute in (1):

2x -y = 5

==>
y= 2x-5 = 2(8/3) -5 = 16/3 -5 = (16-15)/3 = 1/3

==> y=
1/3
